Betting On The Horses…
Horse race betting is a popular form of gambling, and the popularity has exploded with the advent of Internet gambling.
The minimum amount one can wager varies according to location and the popularity of the race. The wager placed in a race is basically against all the other wagers. Meaning for one to win another has to lose. The bookie keeps a percentage of each wager. The bookies are careful to have wagers on either side, in order to avoid losses. Therefore even though in prestigious races, the bookie may be willing to take bets that amount to thousands of dollars, in small races the bookie may refuse to take such huge wagers.
Apart from the horse number and the type of bet one wishes to place, the bookie will also need the track name and the race number before the bet can be finalized. Most racetracks provide ticketing windows specifically for beginners. Once the bet is placed a person is usually given a ticket. This is used when one is cashing the win. The bookie needs to verify the ticket to ensure that the win is legitimate.
